Susinsight
Building the creative and digital foundations for sustainability journalism and intelligence across Africa.
A digital window into Africa's development.
Susinsight is a digital media outlet focused on sustainability, journalism, and intelligence. It brings together reporting on the people, practices, and policies shaping development across Africa. My role is to lead the creative and technical work that makes this body of reporting clear, useful, and easier to explore.
A visual language for serious ideas.
I shaped the visual identity and creative direction, then carried that language through the publication. That work spans the website, editorial layouts, data visualizations, illustrations, photo illustrations, posters, social graphics, reels, and video. Each format has its own job, but it should still feel like it belongs to Susinsight.

A publication built to keep evolving.
The site began on WordPress. As the product grew, I helped move its experience toward a headless setup, with a Next.js front end and a git-based publishing workflow through Pages CMS. The system can also work with WordPress content through GraphQL. I also build the content structures and publishing tools that help editors manage a growing archive and support new editorial features.
Make a deep archive easier to explore.
Susinsight covers a wide range of sustainability and development subjects. I work on the structures that help readers find their way through it: topics, SDGs, regions, countries, stories, and series. Susdata gives readers another way in, with indicators across Africa's economy, society, and environment. Together, these pathways help someone move from a question to relevant reporting or data without needing to know where to start.
A system behind every new experience.
The design system is becoming the shared source of truth for the platform. I am refining its foundations, naming, components, and guidance so that new pages and features can build on the same decisions. I am also shaping it for code agents, so they can understand the system and use its patterns when helping develop new work.
Ask Susinsight, grounded in our reporting.
Ask Susinsight gives readers a direct way to explore questions about sustainability and development in Africa. It searches Susinsight's published reporting and returns a concise answer with the source material close at hand. I designed and built it as both an on-page assistant and a dedicated destination.
On-page assistant
The popup lets a reader ask a question without leaving the page they are exploring.
Dedicated research page
The full page gives the assistant more room for a question, suggested prompts, and its response.
Build the paths that bring readers back.
I built integrations that give readers useful moments to subscribe while exploring the publication. Substack sign-up prompts appear alongside stories, with a timed invitation after someone has spent a while on the site. Together, they make subscribing part of the reading experience and give the newsletter more opportunities to grow.
Work that continues with the platform.
Susinsight keeps changing, and so does my work on it. I continue to develop the platform, refine its systems, and explore useful ways to apply new technology. The aim is to give the publication a strong digital foundation that can support its next idea, feature, and stage of growth.
